Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima, Chairperson of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) announced yesterday the release of US State Department’s 12th Annual Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report which kept the Philippines in the Tier 2 Category.

 

The Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) and the International Justice Mission (IJM) together with the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) conducted  recently an Anti-Trafficking in Persons Conference for Media Practitioners entitled “Human Trafficking Beat: Combating Trafficking through Responsible media Partnerships” at the Richmonde Hotel, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima yesterday vowed to pursue the human trafficking syndicate which allegedly victimized a Filipina worker who labored in Hongkong without pay for more than two years.

The alleged victim “Jona” (not her real name) arrived in Manila last night after a harrowing experience in Hongkong. De Lima and other Department of Justice officials were on hand to welcome her.

To increase the effectiveness and coordination of the members, various agencies and non-government partners comprising the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima, Chairperson of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) has recently issued Memorandum Circular No. 21 of 2012, establishing the reorganization of the IACAT Secretariat. 

The Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) and the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) joined force to combat the menace of human trafficking in the country as they signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) which will make KBP a partner in the broadcast industry to help in the awareness and education campaign of the government against this crime against humanity.

The Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), together with its non-government partner Blas F. Ople Policy Center, lauded the Malaysian court for ending the human trafficking operations of Singaporean national Eugene Lim Beng Huat aka “Alfred Lim”, who victimized more than a hundred (100) Filipina workers overseas.
